The documents and forms on this page are used by the Federation to manage the agreements between member organizations. As part of the Federation agreement, the National Speakers Association of the US makes available copies of the magazine Speaker and copies of the audio CD Voices of Experience to Federation organizations. Although the Federation does not have an administrative office, the National Speakers Association in the US provides some administrative support through its headquarters staff. The criteria for affiliation as a Candidate Member of the Federation are available on this Web page below. In addition to the criteria, Past IFFPS President, Paul Bridle, CSP, provides the following points for any new speakers association to consider:
You need 20 PROFESSIONAL Members – It is the emphasis on the ‘Professional’ that is important. Some countries have had over 60 Members but struggled to join the IFFPS because they did not have the core number of professional members. This means that you need to make sure you have a tier status within your organization which identifies who the professional members are. This in turn means that you need to have a way of measuring this.
You need to have a properly constituted organization which is legal within your country. This also means that you have a Board and all the processes necessary to elect Board Members. We would also be looking for how you are doing your succession planning for the Board. You need to have the necessary structure in place to be financially stable.
You need to have a code of ethics that members agree to abide by. The IFFPS provides the service now which enables you to deal with issues pertaining to ethical standards but you need a local person who is the custodian of ethics and to whom people can take an issue and know it will be dealt with professionally, legally and ethically.
You need a program that is at least six months in advance at any time. Along side this is the need for marketing material and communication systems. For example, a website, regular updates sent out by email or mailings and ways for people to make contact with your Association. Your Association needs to be professional as well as having professional members. Being professional means that you have good administrative support so that people are kept informed and new and current Members are dealt with in a way that they get the most out of their membership.
Please remember that as a Candidate Member you have a year to prove that you can sustain your momentum and maintain the standards. This period of time can be extended if necessary.

IFFPS POLICIES FOR MEMBERSHIP
1.1 Individual Memberships
By virtue of membership in a member speakers association, the individual members of the speakers association are considered members of the IFFPS.
Individual members do not become members of other speakers associations, and they are not eligible to vote in other speakers association elections unless they choose to pay the dues of that speakers association and join as a member.
1.2 Admissions and Application
To be eligible to apply for IFFPS membership, speakers associations must meet the requirements as outlined in the by-laws and these policies:
- Be the national organization in its country serving the needs of professional speakers.
- Be open to all residents of the particular country who meet the membership requirements of such speakers association.
- Maintain a membership of at least 20 paying members engaged in the business of professional speaking and earning a portion of their individual income from speaking fees.
- Speakers associations will not accept or renew direct memberships from individuals in the other speakers association’s regions, unless that individual is already a paid member of their home-nations speakers association. ("Home nation" is generally defined by an individual spending 181 or more days in residence per calendar year.)
- Publish a code of ethics, to which their members must subscribe.
- Advise its members of upcoming speakers association’s educational events.

- Proof of not-for-profit organizational status
- Articles of incorporation or equivalent
- Bylaws, constitution or equivalent
- Membership Roster
- Board of Directors and Officers list
- Schedule for officer rotation
- Election process or equivalent
- Proof of organization support for ethical guidelines of membership
- Code of Professional Ethics or equivalent
- Membership dues structure
1.2.2 Review Process
Speakers association applications for IFFPS membership are reviewed by a committee of Executive Council members as appointed by the current IFFPS President. The review committee brings recommendations to the Executive Council. During the review phase, the committee evaluates the application documents and the general speaking experience of the speakers association’s current members and membership requirements.
1.3 Candidate Status Status Extension
If the speakers association or the Executive Council requests that the Candidate Member status be extended for an additional period of time, that is at the discretion of the Executive Council. Should that extended period be extended, it is the choice of the speakers association to continue as a Candidate Member or to withdraw the application.
